This week marked the release of Cabbage’s new single ‘Arms of Pleonexia’. The song, alongside many others by Cabbage, is fuelled with hatred towards the current UK government. Cabbage are an alternative rock band, based in Manchester. The band are currently signed to Skeleton Key Records, an independent record label which was set up by James Skelly of The Coral.
‘Arms of Pleonexia’ is written about the UK and its allies, about how our governments are helping to fund mass destruction around the world. Hitting out towards the fact that we are selling weapons to countries who are using them to cause mass death. The chorus of the song begs the question ‘how long till we take responsibility?’. How long will it be before the government and its allies are held responsible for adding fuel to the fire?
‘Pleonexia’ means to have extreme greed and wealth from what belongs to others. Implying that countries are gaining increasingly more power because we are feeding it to them through weaponry.
The band have accompanied the release of this single with the announcement of their debut album, titled ‘Nihilistic Glamour Shots’. The band stated that they’re going to be ‘throwing everything into it as though it will be their last’ as they believe that there are ‘too many psychopathic leaders with control of nuclear weapons to procrastinate.’
Cabbage had an insanely busy 2017 and appeared to be touring non-stop. And as well as the announcement of their debut album, the release of ‘Arms of Pleonexia’ they have also just announced another HUGE tour which takes place in April.
The band have also announced that they’re going to be doing a separate show at the O2 Ritz in Manchester, called ‘Glamour at Thee Ritz’.
Be very alert, as this year is set to be an impeccable year for Cabbage. 'Nihilistic Glamour Shots' is released on the 30th March 2018, with 'Arms of Pleonexia' available now.
