Online streaming service Netflix have done it again, with another incredible show which could easily compete with anything on TV right now.

Mindhunter is a 10-episode series based on the true crime book, ‘Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit’ written by John E. Douglas. It’s main focus being the FBI’s behavioural science department, realising and researching patterns in multiple kills made by single murderers.

The show, created by Jon Penhall, and produced by Charlize Theron and David Fincher, is set in the year 1977, when criminal psychology and profiling was still relatively new.

Two FBI agents, from the behavioural science unit, join forces to start researching common traits and patterns within murderer’s methods and reasonings’ in an attempt to understand why they kill multiple people.

"How do we get ahead of crazy, if we don't know how crazy thinks..."

There are numerous layers to each story giving the show a unique edge. These complex plots include the relationships both agents are in, the murders they help solve, discoveries they make, and the incredible interviews carried out with certain murderers to conduct research.

The first murderer they interview, The Co-ed Killer Edmund Kemper III, is astoundingly portrayed by actor Cameron Britton. His fantastic performance is so eerily like the real-life murderer, it hints of producer Charlize Theron’s academy award winning “monster” performance.

The two detectives also get help from psychology professor Wendy Carr, who provides a brilliant female angle and perspective, further adding to the complexity of the story.

What really makes this series great is the suspense, dark humour, and the fact it’s all based on true events.

In a time of documentary saturation, some drama and easy watching, it’s a pleasant and welcome change when it comes to a classic Netflix binge.

This show captures the 70’s era perfectly, giving us a range of conflict, love, action and thrill balanced flawlessly. It will swallow up hours of your day without you realising.

Season 2 cannot come quick enough.
